Exporters' Associations are organizations that have been serving in various sectors in various provinces of Turkey since 1937 and aim to contribute to economic development by increasing, supporting and coordinating exports.
The Council of Ministers Decision No. 93/4614, dated 5/7/1993, which regulates the status and working principles of the Exporters' Associations, and the Regulation on Exporters' Associations dated 14/8/1993, which was issued pursuant to it, were repealed in 2009 and the establishment and functioning of the Exporters' Associations and the Turkish Exporters' Assembly, The Law No. 5910 on the Establishment and Duties of the Turkish Exporters Assembly and Exporters' Associations, which regulates the procedures and principles regarding the duties, organs, revenues, expenditures and audits of its members, and the rights and obligations of its members, was published in the Official Gazette No. 27277 dated 3 July 2009 and entered into force.
The Regulation on the Establishment and Duties of the Turkish Exporters Assembly and Exporters' Associations, in order to determine the procedures and principles to be applied in the subjects covered by the Law, was published in the Official Gazette dated 3 September 2009 and numbered 27338 and entered into force.
As of 2009, there are 61 exporters' associations operating in 27 different sectors/sub-sectors in Turkey.
Exporters' unions are private sector organizations and their aim is to contribute to the development of the commercial capacities of member companies. Unions perform many functions for this general purpose. These are defined in general terms in the Law and the Regulation.
Unions operating throughout Turkey are organized in 13 general secretariats.
Istanbul Textile and Apparel Exporters' Associations General Secretariat (İTKİB) is one of them and there are four unions within its body. These,
· Istanbul Ready-to-Wear and Apparel Exporters' Association;
· Istanbul Textile and Raw Materials Exporters' Association;
· Istanbul Leather and Leather Products Exporters' Association;
· Istanbul Carpet Exporters' Association.
There are also other regional exporters' associations and secretariats general located in the provinces of İzmir, Mersin, Bursa, Denizli, Gaziantep and Antalya, serving one or more of the sectors served by İTKİB. In terms of both the number of members and the export volume, the four unions operating under İTKİB are the biggest in their fields in Turkey.
Employees of the General Secretariat of Istanbul Textile and Apparel Exporters' Associations are subject to the Labor Law and the Law No. 5910 on the Establishment and Duties of the Turkish Exporters' Assembly and Exporters' Associations and the regulations issued accordingly. The Turkish Exporters Assembly and Exporters' Associations Human Resources Regulation regulates the employment of our employees, their duties and powers, qualifications, advancement, promotion, dismissal, discipline principles, obligations, wages and all other progress payments, including gender, race, language, religion. The principles of equality of opportunity and non-discrimination among our employees in terms of factors such as ethnic origin, political thought, sect, philosophical belief, physical difference, marital status have been adopted.
