Obtaining a Turkish driving license

The driving license is one of the most important matters that a foreigner residing in Turkey is asking about so that he can drive the car legally within the Turkish traffic regulations and the international license is also valid for a period of six months from the date of the person’s entry into Turkey according to international agreements with the Turkish state, but after the end of the permissible period Driving a car through the international license, the foreigner must convert his license into a Turkish license in accordance with Turkish laws, and if the driver's license was issued by one of the countries not included in the list of countries allowed to change its driving license to another Turkish one, then the person must issue a license Turkish leadership.

Conditions for obtaining a Turkish driving license:

Types and categories of Turkish driving license:

There are several categories for the Turkish driving license. These categories differ according to the type and size of the vehicle. The following is a list of the Turkish driving license categories:
A1: Allows the bearer to drive motorcycles.
A2: Allows the bearer to drive bicycles.
B: It allows the bearer to drive cars, minibuses and pickup trucks.
C: grants the bearer to drive trucks.
D: It authorizes the bearer to drive tow cars.
E: grants the bearer to drive buses.
F: grants the bearer to drive tractors.
G: It authorizes its holder to drive engineering vehicles with engines.
H: enables its holder to drive cars for people with special needs.

The papers required to issue a Turkish driving license:

1- A copy of the tourist residence permit, work permit, or temporary protection card.
2- A copy of the academic certificate translated and certified by a notary (all academic documents are accepted, starting from the literacy certificate and completion of the elementary level to the university level, and for university students, the student document is sufficient).
3- A medical report for driving licenses (it can be obtained from government hospitals or private medical centers, and it requires the presence of (3) personal photos).
4- Adli sicil kaydı can be extracted either from the court or from the internet via the e-government portal (E-DEVLET).
5- Recent personal photos with a white background (biometric), count (4).

Fees for obtaining a Turkish driver's license:

Fees for obtaining a driver’s license vary from one driving school to another, but we will mention the approximate fees for obtaining the license:
• Driving school fee of 2100 Turkish liras
The first theoretical examination fee is 130 Turkish liras
The fee for the first practical examination is 160 Turkish liras
• 110 lira medical report form
• The date of the theoretical and practical exam is set by the Directorate of Education and according to the regulations governing the Turkish driver’s license, the applicant has the right to repeat the exam (4) times and pay 80 liras for the theoretical exam and 290 for the practical exam.

After successfully passing the exams and receiving the papers from the school, an amount of (810) Turkish liras must be paid in the bank, and the last step is to book an appointment online from the Civil Affairs Directorate through the link referred to below: https://randevu.nvi.gov.tr

The other way is by calling 199.
Upon going to the Civil Affairs Directorate on the day of the specified date, the pass papers are presented, accompanied by the bank receipt, and then the driver’s license is sent when issued to your address fixed in the Souls Department.

Information about the exam:


The practical exam includes the student’s ability to drive a car properly while adhering to traffic rules. The theoretical exam includes 50 questions and the duration of the exam is 60 minutes. The questions are divided as follows according to topics:
28 questions about traffic rules
• 12 questions about first aid
• 10 questions about auto mechanics
