Mihrimah Sultan Mosque

Sultanahm became the sole daughter of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent and after the death of her mother, the Sultan of 1558, the most powerful woman in the Ottoman Empire and on the campus of the Taba Palace. Where the college and the mosque ordered their construction on the top of a hill of Istanbul's hills, are an indication of the site that was owned by Sultan Mehramah.

The Sultanahmet Mosque is located in the Karagümrük district of the Edirnekapı district of the Fatih district of the European section of Istanbul.

The mosque was built by Sinan Agha in 1562-1565 and ordered by Sultan Mehramah. Where it was built in the form of parallel rectangles occupying an area of ​​about 1100 m 2. The total length of the mosque is 57 m and 21 m. In the middle of the mosque there is a 20 m dome with a height of 35 m, based on four columns called "Elephant Legs". Sunlight entering through the dome created by the architect Senan Agha takes into account the name of the pyramid, which means in Persian "sun and moon" and through the windows of the vaults supporting the dome enhance the sense of the wideness of the mosque. The whole features a marble pulpit and colorful windows that offer an aesthetic look to the mosque.

The mosque consists of one minaret with one balcony, which made it outside the architectural system of the architect Sinan usual. Demolition of the upper part of the minaret in the earthquakes that took place in 1719 and then rebuilt.
