One of Istanbul's oldest mosques. Located in the Beyoglu area in the European section of Istanbul.
The architectural structure of San Aga was designed and built in 1573 by order of Piala Pasha, known as the captain of the sea, a relative of Sultan Selim II. Work took about 8 years.
The mosque of Piala Pasha differs from the other mosques that were designed by the architect Sinan Agha, which has a large central dome. It contains six identical domes, arranged in two rows. The dome is about 9 m. The mosque also features its minaret from the mihrab. The stones of the kufi.
The mosque is built with dimensions of 30.50 x 19.70 m 2 covered with six identical domes of 9 m diameter. The ceiling is built of bricks. The bunnies supported by the pandantifs are based on cusp of two central pillars of granite. The whole is lit through three chains of windows. The inscriptions on the mihrab and the dome-shaped inscriptions engraved on the famous fossil tile made in Aznak are floral motifs. Perhaps the Koranic verses written on the mihrab is the most beautiful painting in the mosque. These writings belong to the calligrapher Sharks Hassan Chalabi. In contrast to this decoration of the sanctuary we find the pulpit without any decoration. The minaret of the mosque is built of kufki stones and is equipped with one balcony only. Perhaps what distinguishes this mosque also is the minaret that ascends from the mihrab.
