It is also known as the Kırım Kilisesi Crimean Church located on Galip Dede Street in the Serdarı Ekrem alley in the Bioglu district of the European section of Istanbul.
The foundation stone of an Anglican church frequented by the Sri Lankan Anglicans was laid by Lord Stratford Canning in 1856. The church was set up at the site of the Roman graveyard dedicated by Sultan Abdulmajid to the English to build a church in memory of the English soldiers who participated in the Crimean War.
The construction, which is governed by the architectural axis model, was constructed from stones that were brought from the island of Malta.
The church was closed down for worship in the 1970s because of the lack of community. After 1990, with the leadership of the Anglican monk, the church was rebuilt by the Sri Lankan refugees and reopened to worship again.
